Known for her sensuous onscreen avatars, Parveen Babi passed away on January 20, 2005 Remembered as one of Bollywood's most beautiful actresses, Parveen was born in Junagadh, Gujarat in a Muslim family. Parveen starred opposite the top most Bollywood actors in 1970s and early 1980s. 1949 born, Parveen started modeling in 1972. Soon she made her Bollywood debut with 'Charitra' opposite cricketer Salim Durrani. Though her debut film was a flop, but she managed to grab eyeballs in Bollywood. She was one of the first Indians to be featured on Time magazine's cover. May be because of her appearance, she was considered a glamorous heroine rather than a serious actress. 'Deewar', 'Namak Halaal', 'Amar Akbar Anthony' and 'Shaan' are some of the most popular films of Parveen Babi. Parveen also appeared in some offbeat films like Vinod Pande's 'Yeh Nazdeekiyan'. Parveen never got married, but she had relationships with many Bollywood celebs like Mahesh Bhatt, Kabir Bedi and Danny Denzongpa. She was rumoured to have an affair with Amitabh Bachchchan as well. Both of them did many films together. Media reports claim that Parveen Babi suffered from schizophrenia. She was found dead in her Mumbai apartment on 22 January 2005. Parveen was found to have gangrene of the foot as a complication of her diabetic condition. Mahesh Bhatt wrote and produced a film titled 'Woh Lamhe' after Parveen's death. It was based on their relationship. Parveen Babi's demise was surely a blow for Bollywood.
